Winter 09 Newsletter

Last month (October) we had the AGM at the Town hall which was very well attended and produced a couple of new volunteers for the Forum Committee. I should say first of all that two of our longest serving members have stood down from their office on the committee after long and very meritorious service to the Forum. Both Alan Crouch and Mike Rose have toiled for many hours to make the Forum a vibrant and better informed organisation. Their efforts on the Carnival Float these last years have demonstrated that all too well everybody. On behalf of all the Forum members I wish them well in any new endeavours. Yes – miss them we will.

I am pleased to welcome a couple of new faces to the Committee on your behalf, they are David Bexhall who has agreed to be our new Secretary and Terry Steeples who has taken over as Treasurer. They both have a good track record at what they are doing so we are in good hands again. Mr Roger Oxenbury has taken on the Crime and Safety SIG and Clive the Transport SIG. Lots to do in both areas so they will be busy, but not alone – your contribution is necessary also. Welcome also to Molly who will doubtless keep us in order when she has time.

Leon Tuppen will have included all the committee and their posts and contacts elsewhere in this Newsletter for your information.

Join them at a meeting soon. All are welcome and your input is important. There is a great deal going on regarding us seniors in the County, too much to list here, but of especial note is the sad business of the Isobel Blackman centre and the Moreton closure notice. Adult Social Care seem to be fighting against us in this department. We must make a fuss about these decisions because they ultimately effect us all. Make your voice heard and views known, support your SIG’s!

Isabel Blackman Centre (IBC) and the Moreton Day C

East Sussex County Council have requested that a statement is put on our website to clarify the information with regards to both Isabel Blackman Centre (IBC)/Moreton Centres in the current newsletter.

The statement reads as follows -

' It has been brought to our attention that the information in relation to the Isabel Blackman Centre (IBC) and the Moreton Day Centres in the current newsletter may need some clarification. The Isabel Blackman Centre has closed but this is only temporarily. We understand that it is being developed as a new centre by East Sussex County Council in partnership with Age Concern East Sussex and Newhaven Community Development Association. Previous services users from IBC and the Morton Day Centre will have the option to move to the new centre when it opens in the summer 2010. Potential future uses for the Moreton Centre will be considered when the combined services have transferred to the new Isabel Blackman Centre'
